What to Expect From a Body Lift
Tue, 17 Jan 2012 14:54:03 GMT

Many people believe a toned body and smooth contours can be achieved with fitness and a healthy diet alone. However, sometimes diet and exercise cannot target loose, sagging skin and many individuals cannot achieve their desired results. Over time, genetics, significant weight loss, pregnancy, and sun damage can cause poor tissue elasticity. Body lifts are cosmetic procedures that can create a firmer, more youthful-looking body.

Lower Body Lift

A complete lower body lift treats the abdomen, waist, hips, and thighs. After anesthesia is administered, a circumferential incision is made around the body at the hips, buttocks, and abdomen. The cosmetic surgeon will tighten and reposition underlying tissues, remove excess skin, and place sutures, skin adhesives, or tapes to close the incision. Sometimes, the surgeon may use liposuction in combination with a lower body lift to achieve the best results.

Upper Body Lift

Upper body lifts begin with a broad, bra-line incision that allows your surgeon to remove fat and excess skin from the back, waist, chest, and lower rib cage. The abdominal skin will be lifted and secured at the lower edge of the ribs. A breast lift is often combined with or included in an upper body lift.

Total Body Lift

For a comprehensive way to rejuvenate your entire figure, a total body lift may be your best option. A total body lift will tighten, lift, and remove excess skin from your arms, thighs, abdomen, breasts, hips, and buttocks.

Body lifts, like any surgical procedure, require a few weeks of recovery to promote full healing and ideal results. You will likely wear compression garments and will be asked to follow your physician’s recommendations for aftercare.

Dr. David Abramson has the experience, surgical finesse, and personalized attention to help you attain your aesthetic objectives. To learn more about procedures like liposuction, tummy tucks, and body lifts, call (917) 720-4806.

Breast Reconstruction Methods: Flap and Implant Reconstructive Surgeries
Tue, 17 Jan 2012 14:33:38 GMT

Women who have undergone mastectomies to remove cancerous breast tissue often seek out breast reconstructive surgery to restore the natural look and feel of their breasts.

Reconstructive Methods

Your plastic surgeon will evaluate your specific case to determine which reconstructive technique is best suited for your body type. Reconstructive techniques include:

  • Flap reconstructive breast surgery.
  • Implant surgery, with or without the use of a tissue expander.
  • A combination of flap and implant reconstruction.

Flap Reconstructive Surgery

With flap reconstructive surgery, a flap of skin, tissue, or muscle is removed from the abdomen, upper back, or buttocks. This sample is then used to create replacement breast tissue. Flap reconstructions tend to look and feel more like natural breasts; however, the procedure is more invasive and complex than implant reconstruction. The two most common types of flap surgery include the following.

  • The TRAM (transverse rectus abdominis muscle) flap procedure uses tissue and muscle from the lower abdominal wall. Often, this procedure produces enough tissue from the donation site that an implant isn’t needed.
  • Latissimus dorsi muscle flap procedures use flaps of tissue and muscle from the upper back.

When flap reconstruction cannot alone provide the desired size, your plastic surgeon may combine this procedure with the use of an implant to achieve ideal fullness.

Implant Reconstructive Surgery

When a surgeon uses implants to attain the desired result, he or she will often utilize a tissue expander. A tissue expander is surgically placed between the skin and chest muscle. Over the course of four to six months, saline solution is added to the expander to slowly stretch the skin to the size of the desired implant. Next, the expander is surgically removed and the implant is inserted. A tissue expander is not always necessary and the implant may be inserted at the time of the mastectomy.

If you have undergone a mastectomy and would like to regain the feminine look and feel of your body, call Dr. David Abramson at (917) 720-4806. Dr. David Abramson serves the Bergen County area with cosmetic surgery procedures, including breast reconstruction and liposuction.

How Can You Benefit From a Blepharoplasty?
Wed, 07 Dec 2011 21:14:53 GMT

If you notice baggy skin around your upper and lower eye lids, you may decide to visit a cosmetic surgeon for help aging more gracefully. In the following overview, you’ll learn about what a blepharoplasty is and what it can do for you and your aging skin.

What is a Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty is most commonly referred to as an eyelid surgery. This surgical procedure is designed to remove excess skin above and below the eye to decrease the appearance of skin folds, droopy eyes, and tiredness. A plastic surgeon will remove skin and fat deposits from the upper lids and pouches under the eyes. Occasionally, a plastic surgeon will recommend that a patient undergo a brow lift during the blepharoplasty so he or she can achieve even better results. Some men and women will only need blepharoplasty on one eye; however, the procedure is generally performed on both eyes.

Who Should Undergo a Blepharoplasty?

You use your eyelids to express feelings and emotions. After decades of use, the upper and lower eyelids can lose their elasticity, much like the rest of your skin. In fact, the eyes are often the first features to show signs of age. As you age, the skin begins to sag and skin folds can even block eyesight, making you appear old and tired.

What Are The Benefits of a Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty can take years off of your appearance and restore your field of vision. Functionally, this procedure can improve your eyesight and increase your quality of life. After full recovery following a blepharoplasty, you’ll look more rested, youthful, and energetic.

If you’re tired of living with baggy, sagging eyelids, call the office of Dr. David Abramson. Dr. Abramson is a highly experienced plastic surgeon who is dedicated to improving the way his clients look and feel. Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck: Determining Which Procedure is Right for You
Wed, 07 Dec 2011 17:52:51 GMT

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the tummy tuck is one of the top five most commonly performed surgical procedures in the U.S. But a tummy tuck is not for everyone. This procedure is slightly more invasive than liposuction and offers very different results. Continue reading to learn about the differences between these cosmetic surgeries and ask your cosmetic surgeon for his recommendation.

Liposuction

Liposuction removes targeted fat deposits from underneath the skin using a cannula. The plastic surgeon administers a local or general anesthetic to prepare the patient before the procedure. In general, liposuction is designed to create a smoother contour to the body. A patient can lose inches from his or her legs, stomach, buttocks, lower abdomen, or thighs. The advantage of liposuction is that it can be used on multiple areas of the body in one procedure. However, results may not be as dramatic as those offered by a tummy tuck.

Liposuction is not designed for weight loss; rather, it helps create a slimmer figure for those who have already reached their ideal weights but have stubborn deposits of fat. This procedure is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle, but can give you the boost and motivation you need to maintain good eating and workout habits.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck procedure can be beneficial for people who have excess fat and skin hanging from the abdominal area. This procedure is designed to not only remove the fat, but also tighten the muscles so that the whole stomach looks smaller, feels firmer, and maintains this new shape. There are two types of tummy tuck surgeries, including a circumferential tummy tuck and a partial tummy tuck. The partial tummy tuck involves fewer incisions. The circumferential tummy tuck removes loose hanging skin from the entire hip area, including the back. This procedure requires a larger incision, and thus, a new naval has to be reconstructed.
