What is the Surgery for Breast Reduction in New York?
A breast reduction begins with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. There are typically three incision options:
- a circular pattern around the areola
- a keyhole- or racquet-shaped pattern with an incision around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease
- an inverted T or anchor-shaped pattern with an incision around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease and then along the natural curve of the crease
Once the incision is made, your breast reduction specialist will reposition your nipple, which remains tethered to its original blood and nerve supply. (Sometimes, if the breasts are especially large and pendulous, the nipple and areola may need to be removed and transplanted to a higher position.) The underlying tissue is reduced, lifted and shaped, and the incisions are brought together to retain the contours of the now smaller breast.
In some cases, excision will be paired with liposuction to remove excess fat. If your breast size is mostly because of fatty tissue, rather than excess skin, then lipo alone may be used for your breast reduction in New York or New Jersey.
