Upper Eyelid Lift
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in New Jersey, Bergen County and Englewood, NJ
An upper eyelid lift (upper blepharoplasty) is a procedure that removes and repositions sagging skin, fat, and tissue in the upper eyelids to restore a more alert appearance. (1)
Over time, eyelid skin can lose its elasticity, causing it to droop. This can create an aged or tired expression that detracts from your beauty, and it can even lead to vision obstruction if the eyelid sags into the eyes. An upper eyelid lift offers a solution to these concerns, resulting in a refreshed appearance and renewed confidence for those who are considered good candidates for this procedure.

About Upper Eyelid Surgery
Due to their delicate, thin skin, the upper eyelids are often among the first places that show signs of aging on the face. (2) Thin skin is more susceptible to sagging, prompting many people to consider upper eyelid surgery to restore their appearance. While there are many anti-aging creams, serums, and treatments marketed to address sagging eyelids, they cannot provide the same level of improvement or long-term solution that an upper eyelift surgery, with Dr. Abramson, can.
Benefits
There are several benefits associated with upper eyelid surgery, including:
- Smoother Eyelids: Dr. Abramson can remove excess skin and tissue from above the eyes to restore a tighter and smoother look and feel.
- More Youthful-Looking Appearance: This procedure can help you restore a brighter, more open, and alert appearance.
- Restored Peripheral Vision: In severe cases of drooping eyelid skin, upper eyelid surgery can improve your field of vision by removing any obstructions.
- Tailored Results: Dr. Abramson tailors each treatment plan around each of his patients’ specific concerns and anatomy.
- Enhanced Self-Esteem: An upper eyelid lift can result in increased confidence and satisfaction with appearance.
Candidates
You may be an ideal candidate for an upper eyelid procedure if you have developed sagging or crepey skin or puffiness above your eyes.
To qualify for upper eyelid surgery, you should be in good general health and have realistic expectations regarding the results. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine for an extended period of time. Dr. Abramson will determine your eligibility for an upper eyelid lift during your consultation.

Preparation
Dr. Abramson’s staff will provide you with a set of pre-operative instructions to help you prepare. You may be asked to:
- Adjust Certain Medications: Certain blood-thinning medications and supplements may need to be discontinued prior to surgery.
- Arrange Transportation Home: You will need to ask a trusted friend or family member to take you home after your procedure.
- Take Time Off: Prepare to take time away from your work and other responsibilities so that you will be able to focus on your recovery.
- Fill Your Prescriptions: Pick up any medications you may need during your recovery ahead of time.
- Stop Smoking: You will have to cease any nicotine use long before your procedure.
- Abstain From Alcohol: Avoid consuming any alcohol in the days before and after your procedure.
Procedure
Dr. Abramson generally performs upper eyelid surgery in a surgical center or hospital setting. The duration of your eyelid lift will vary, but it will likely be between one and two hours long. To ensure your comfort, local anesthesia, either with or without sedation, will be administered.
Dr. Abramson will place an incision along the natural crease of your upper eyelids. (1) This placement allows your healing incision to blend in with the natural eyelid crease, effectively minimizing visibility. Dr. Abramson will proceed to remove the excess skin and close the incision.
Recovery
Dr. Abramson performs upper eyelid surgery on an outpatient basis, which means that he will release you home to continue resting on the same day that he performs your procedure. You might need to take some time away from your responsibilities to allow yourself to heal completely, but you may return to most light activities and desk work after several days. You will need to refrain from engaging in any strenuous activities until Dr. Abramson clears you to return.
Throughout your recovery, you may experience some swelling, bruising, or minor discomfort around the treated areas. Dr. Abramson’s staff will provide you with postoperative instructions and call you the day after surgery to ensure that you navigate your recovery with ease and achieve the best possible results.
Results
After your upper eyelid lift, you will be able to enjoy smoother, more youthful eyelids. These refinements can contribute to a greater sense of self-esteem and a more alert and youthful-looking appearance.
The results of upper eyelid surgery are long-lasting, with results you can enjoy for years to come. Results will age gracefully and maintain a natural look over time.
Corresponding Procedure: Lower Eyelid Lift
Many patients choose to undergo a lower eyelid lift at the same time as their upper eyelid lift. This procedure can result in a more well-rested appearance by improving the appearance of undereye bags. During this procedure, Dr. Abramson generally makes an incision within the lower eyelid so that it is completely hidden. This surgical technique is best for patients who want to address bulging fat pads and have good skin laxity. If a patient wants to address sagging skin, Dr. Abramson may create an external incision hidden by the patient’s lower eyelid lashes, just below the lash line.
Many people do very well from combining these two procedures, which is also known as an upper and lower blepharoplasty. This approach allows patients to open up their eyes, remove excess skin, and improve lower eyelid puffiness all at once.
Cost of Upper Eyelid Lift in New Jersey and New York City
The cost of your upper eyelid surgery will vary depending on several factors in your treatment plan. These can include the type of corrections Dr. Abramson performs, the length and complexity of your procedure, and whether you and Dr. Abramson decide to include any additional procedures. Once Dr. Abramson has discussed your goals and provided his recommendations for your treatment plan, his staff will give you a comprehensive cost estimate. Financing is available for those who qualify.
