Lower Eyelid Lift
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in New Jersey, Bergen County and Englewood, NJ
A lower eyelid lift, also known as lower blepharoplasty, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that restores a brighter, more refreshed appearance to the areas beneath your eyes. (1)
As we age, the elasticity of our skin can change, especially around our eyes, where the skin is much thinner. Sagging skin, puffiness, and under-eye hollows can develop and cause an aged and tired look. A lower eyelid lift can address these changes and help you achieve an appearance that better reflects your inner vitality.
Dr. David Abramson is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in New Jersey and New York City. His lower eyelid lift creates natural-looking yet transformational results for patients with undereye concerns. He was recognized as a New Jersey Top Doctor in both 2024 and 2025, and continues to receive overwhelmingly positive reviews.

About Lower Eyelid Lifts
During this procedure, Dr. Abramson can remove/reposition sagging skin and excess fat, allowing you to achieve a more rested and revitalized appearance.
Lower Eyelid Lift Techniques
The most common techniques for lower blepharoplasty are the transcutaneous approach or the transconjunctival approach.
- Transcutaneous Approach: The transcutaneous approach places an incision beneath the lower lash line. Dr. Abramson may use this technique if skin laxity is a primary concern. (2)
- Transconjunctival Approach: The transconjunctival approach uses an incision within the lower eyelid. Dr. Abramson may use this approach if you are looking to mainly address protruding fat pads and have good skin laxity. (3)
Benefits
There are several benefits associated with lower blepharoplasty, including:
- Refined Aesthetics: A lower eyelid lift can eliminate excess skin from beneath the eyes to restore a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance.
- Lasting Results: You can enjoy the results of a lower eyelid lift for years to come, especially when you maintain an effective skincare regimen and protect your skin from the sun.
- Enhanced Confidence: Addressing your undereye concerns can inspire confidence once you see your refreshed look.
- Discreet Scarring: Dr. Abramson places incisions discreetly so that they are barely visible when healed. With the transconjunctival approach, the incision will not be visible at all.
Candidates
You may be an ideal candidate for a lower eyelid lift if you have started noticing signs of aging underneath your eyes and wish to revitalize your look. Dr. Abramson can effectively address sagging skin, persistent under-eye bags, puffiness caused by fat pads, and more.
To qualify for this procedure, you should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine. Dr. Abramson will determine your candidacy during your consultation.
Personal Consultation
During your personal consultation, Dr. Abramson will meet with you individually to finalize your candidacy and create your treatment plan. He will ask you several questions regarding your medical history, personal concerns, and aesthetic goals. He will also perform a physical evaluation to assess your facial anatomy and skin laxity.
Dr. Abramson will take each of these details into account when creating a one-of-a-kind solution for your needs. He will recommend the most effective surgical techniques, which may include integrating other procedures into your treatment plan. Dr. Abramson will also take the time to answer any questions you may have.

Preparation
After you have scheduled your lower eyelid lift, there are certain steps that you will need to take in order to prepare. Dr. Abramson’s staff will provide you with a set of detailed pre-operative instructions to help guide you. He may direct you to:
- Avoid Certain Medications: Discontinue the use of any medications or supplements that may thin your blood.
- Arrange Transportation: Have a trusted friend or family member provide you with transportation home after your procedure, as you will not be able to drive yourself.
- Prepare Time Away: You will need to prepare to take a step back from your career, commitments, and other responsibilities to give yourself time to heal.
- Fill Your Prescriptions: We advise that you pick up any medications that you may need ahead of time.
- Refrain from Alcohol: Avoid consuming any alcohol in the days before and after your appointment.
- Cease Nicotine Use: Abstain from any nicotine use several weeks before your procedure, as it can lead to the development of certain complications.
Recovery
After a lower eyelid lift, it is common to experience some swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the treated areas. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own with time, but you may also manage them with cold compresses, keeping your head elevated, medications prescribed by Dr. Abramson, and following all aftercare instructions.
During your recovery, you will need to take some time away from work to allow yourself to recover. You may return to most of your activities after resting for less than two weeks. However, you will need to wait for Dr. Abramson’s clearance before returning to any strenuous or demanding tasks. Dr. Abramson’s staff will provide you with detailed postoperative instructions after you meet with him in-person.
Results
The full results of your lower eyelid lift will become increasingly apparent as you continue to heal. Your exact results will vary, but you can expect to experience an alert, refreshed, and rejuvenated appearance along your lower eyelids, as well as smoother and tighter skin, both of which can contribute to a more desirable and youthful-looking appearance.
The results of your lower eyelid lift are long-lasting, with effects that you can enjoy for years to come. Although this procedure cannot stop the natural effects of aging, it can provide you with long-lasting rejuvenation.
Corresponding Procedures
- Brow Lift: In some cases, patients benefit from undergoing a brow lift in conjunction with their lower eyelid lift. Combining these two procedures can lift the upper face and also address the undereye area to improve proportions.
- Facelift: A facelift rejuvenates the lower face by improving support and repositioning the deeper layers, as well as removing excess skin. Often, patients who have sagging eye bags beneath the eyes can benefit from addressing lower face definition.
- Facial Fat Transfer: For patients who have undereye hollows making them look gaunt or tired, a facial fat transfer can act as an effective solution. Dr. Abramson will use liposuction to harvest some of your own fat, which can be processed and reinjected into carefully selected areas.
Cost of Lower Eyelid Lifts in New Jersey and New York
