Liposuction Revision
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in New Jersey, Bergen County and Englewood, NJ
Revision liposuction is designed to correct or improve the results of a previous liposuction procedure. Sometimes, after undergoing fat removal, patients are left with unwanted residual fat, uneven contours, skin laxity, or dimpling from overcorrection. (1) This can lead to dissatisfaction and even a loss of confidence. Liposuction revision aims to provide each patient with a silhouette that meets each of their goals, restoring their contours and their confidence.

About Liposuction Revision
Liposuction revision is a specialized procedure that can be performed for restorative or cosmetic reasons. Dr. Abramson performs countless liposuction revision procedures each year, treating various areas such as the calves, hips, breasts, face, and more. This highlights the importance of finding a trusted, board-certified surgeon initially, as not every individual who performs this procedure has the mastery or skill level to achieve consistent and exceptional results. By seeking the services of a board-certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Abramson, you can effectively and safely undergo revision liposuction and finally achieve your desired sculpt.
Benefits
Undergoing revision liposuction offers a myriad of advantages for each patient, including:
- Improved Contours: Patients can achieve smoother, more natural contours that align with their original expectations.
- Elimination of Uneven Fat: Revision liposuction can address uneven or lumpy areas left by previous liposuction efforts.
- Personalized Treatment Plan: Each procedure is fully tailored to address the patient’s anatomy and concerns, ensuring personalized outcomes.
- Boosted Confidence: Revision liposuction can enhance one’s self-esteem by finally allowing them to achieve the results they originally wanted.
- Reduction of Residual Fat: Liposuction revision can help remove remaining fat deposits that were not addressed or were not responsive to previous liposuction efforts.
- Professional Expertise: Revision liposuction conducted by a board-certified expert, such as Dr. Abramson, ensures a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in correcting previous outcomes.
Candidates
Candidates for revision liposuction typically include those who are unsatisfied with the results of a previous liposuction procedure and wish to correct it. This procedure can help patients experiencing irregularities or asymmetry within their contours, loose skin, and scarring. All candidates interested in revision liposuction should be in good overall health, free from any underlying medical conditions that may impair healing. It is also important that realistic expectations are held regarding the outcome of the procedure. Additionally, patients should be nonsmokers or willing to quit nicotine several weeks in advance. Dr. Abramson will determine each patient’s candidacy during their personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
Before undergoing their liposuction revision, each patient will need to attend a personal consultation at one of our three offices. This consultation is not only a chance for Dr. Abramson to get to know each patient more personally, but also to understand why their previous procedure did not meet their standards. Dr. Abramson will ask each patient a series of questions regarding their medical history, current prescriptions, previous liposuction, concerns, and goals before evaluating each patient’s anatomy. This information will help Dr. Abramson determine if liposuction revision is right for them and how he can best help them achieve their desired goals.
After explaining the details of what liposuction revision involves, he will prepare personalized pre-operative and post-operative instructions. Each patient is encouraged to prepare and ask questions, as this consultation is designed to be informative and collaborative.

Preparation
In preparation for their liposuction revision, each patient will follow a set of pre-operative instructions provided to them by Dr. Abramson. These instructions help facilitate the smoothest recovery and the best possible outcomes.
Individuals will temporarily need to avoid using blood-thinning medications and herbal supplements. Any prescriptions and medications should be picked up prior to the procedure, and time away from work should be planned accordingly. Because anesthesia is used during the procedure, each patient should ensure they have arranged for transportation home. If applicable, nicotine use should be fully discontinued several weeks in advance, until each patient has fully recovered.
Procedure
On the day of treatment, each patient will be led to a private room where their skin will be cleansed and sanitized. Intravenous sedation or general anesthesia may be administered, depending on the area being addressed, personal comfort preferences, the scale of the procedure, and the type of liposuction. Once it has taken effect, Dr. Abramson will inject the treatment area with a tumescent solution containing adrenaline, saline, and a local anesthetic. This helps minimize bleeding, numb the area further, and swell the remaining fat cells, which makes them easier to remove. (2)
Dr. Abramson will then create a small incision and insert a thin cannula. He will carefully move this around to emulsify and gently suction out as much fat as possible to help correct each patient’s previous procedure. Once the patient’s desired results have been achieved, Dr. Abramson will close the incisions and leave each patient to rest under the care of our team as any remaining anesthesia wears off.
Recovery
Each recovery timeline will vary as each procedure is tailored to address their specific concerns and anatomy. Dr. Abramson will provide personalized post-operative instructions during each patient’s consultation to help them heal as efficiently as possible. Throughout each patient’s recovery, our team will be there to support them at any point.
Generally speaking, patients can expect bruising, swelling, and sensitivity in the treatment area. Any discomfort experienced can be managed through the use of pain medications under the guidance of Dr. Abramson. Individuals will need to wear a compression garment as they heal. This is designed to help minimize swelling and also to help protect and maintain the body’s new contours. Most patients can typically return to work within one to two weeks but will need to avoid physical exercise or other high-intensity activities for several more weeks.
Results
Patients will be able to see an immediate improvement in their silhouette after their liposuction revision procedure, but the full effects will become more apparent as any residual swelling dissipates. People undergoing liposuction revision will be able to finally achieve and enjoy the results they initially wanted. Smoother, more symmetrical, and defined contours can be achieved, and any untreated areas from previous procedures will finally be addressed. The results of liposuction revision can be long-lasting but should be paired with a healthy lifestyle to preserve its effects.
Corresponding Procedures
Dr. Abramson can perform several other treatments to help enhance the results of each individual’s revision liposuction, which he can help you explore during your personal consultation. To learn more about the different procedures that may be performed, please read Dr. Abramson’s blog!
BodyTite
BodyTite RFAL (Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction) is a procedure that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to recontour certain areas of the body. It delivers the energy above and below the skin to target inelasticity and localized fat, allowing you to redefine the contours of your figure—all without the downtime and invasiveness of traditional surgery.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck is a body-contouring procedure that is designed to tighten and strengthen weakened or separated abdominal muscles, as well as remove excess tissue from around the waist. Also known as an abdominoplasty, this procedure is performed to create a flatter and more defined torso. Dr. Abramson can perform this procedure to help enhance the results of a liposuction revision.
